Along with a number of other similar animatronics, Animatronic Donald was built by Oswald Rabbit, with the help of the Mad Doctor, in the early days of Wasteland, as Oswald sought to have everything that Mickey Mouse had — down to his friends. Though he has no delusions of being the real Donald (which would be pretty hard, anyway, considering the many robotic parts of him that still show), Animatronic-Donald is a very thorough copy of the real Donald, sharing most of his core personality, from bad temper to courage to bad luck.
During the Blot Wars, Donald was broken down in several parts, though his head never stopped thinking (and quacking). Mischievous Spatters then made a point of hiding his parts all over Wasteland in an attempt to prevent Oswald or one of his allies from rebuilding him. During his adventures in Wasteland in 2010, Mickey Mouse came across Donald's head in the Library of Bog Easy and was tasked with gathering his parts for him and rebuilding him. After Mickey had succeeded in this, the reformed Animatronic Donald found himself bothered by a voodoo doll in the possession of a Spatter, which he again asked for Mickey to collect. After Mickey succeeded yet again, their friendship was cemented for good.
