Astro Pooch is apparently a semi-anthropomorphic dog.[1]

Astro Pooch is a cheery-faced space-dog travelling through the Solar System aboard a small shuttle; what he lacks in piloting skill he makes up for in boldness. Astro Pooch greatly likes cheese, which prompted him to visit the Green Moon, supposedly made of cheese. He found that this was indeed the case, but also that the Moon was inhabited by an impish little alien who, angered by Astro's gluttony, fought him off by throwing cheese at him, and subsequently became Astro's archenemy.

Behind the scenesEdit

Astro Pooch was created in 1965 in an eponymous comic, made by Floyd Gottfredson to be a background comic seen in the 1968 live-action comedy, Never a Dull Moment.

Due to their sheer oddity, the comic and its characters have become a bit of a recurring joke among Disney comic enthusiasts, with joking plans of a The Floyd Gottfredson Library of Walt Disney's Astro Pooch Adventures in Color Vol. 1 book discussed by Gemstone editor John Clark. Astro Pooch underwent a surge in popularity in 2018 when an absurdly lengthy, tangent-prone "review" of the strip was featured as Duck Comics Revue's April's Fools prank, starting a trend of fanmade Astro Pooch Poems in various languages.

Notes and ReferencesEdit

  1. Although anthropomorphic in most respects, Astro appears more dog-like than standard anthropomorphic dogs, readily going "Arf" and being only somewhat bipedal; it is possible he may some sort of enhanced animal dog as opposed to a regular anthropomorphic specimen. It is also possible Astro Pooch originates from Planet Barks rather than from Earth.
