Benvenuto Cellini was a human man.
Description[]
Benvenuto Cellini was a famous Italian sculptor from the 16th century. He was interested in spiritism and the supernatural, and paid a supposed sorcerer to make a ghost manifest before him, at midnight, in the Coliseum Ruins in Rome. Through the use of a magic-lantern, the charlatan did make a ghastly face appear, and, satisfied, Cellini paid him in gold as agreed.
Behind the scenes[]
Benvenuto Cellini first appeared in flashbacks in the 1957 story Mickey Mouse in Magic Land.
Naturally, Heron was a genuine historical figure, and not only a sculptor but also a goldsmith, a painter, a writer, a musician and a soldier. The truthfulness of the ghost anecdote related in Magic Land is, however, unknown.
