A member of the extended Duck family, Blackduck is or was a notorious pirate. The Chart of the Duck Family Tree owned by Elvira Duck in 1960 showed him to be on the same branch of the tree as Gladstone Gander, for which fact Donald Duck immediately made fun of Gladstone.
Behind the scenes[]
Blackduck's name appears in the Duck Family Tree from 1960 comic story Family Fun.
His name is unmistakeably a reference to Blackbeard the Pirate (and, indeed, was simply called “Blackbeard”, or regional equivalents thereof, in some translations). As such, it is unclear if Blackduck is a historical figure and distant ancestor of Gladstone, or a more recent relative.
