Scrooge McDuck Wikia

Brutopia is a country aiming for world domination. It is lead by a dictator named Bruto Castrova of Ironheelia. Brutopia specializes in placing spies in non-aligned nations.

Description[]

Little is known of their nation, as few (or no) stories have been set within its' borders. But their leader, Brutus, seems to be a military dictator. Dissidents and unfulfilled operators may to be punished by working in the salt mines.

Brutopia has a space program of some sort, as they are known to have a few satellites in orbit, one of which was destroyed when the Curse of Nostrildamus caused it to fall to Earth.

Attempted plans[]

1950: A network of spies working for Brutopia attempted to steal plans for a Q-bomb. However, the network was intercepted by an american agent of the Secret Secret Service, whom sabotaged the plans.[1]

1957: A brutopian representative in Duckburg tried to steal the element Bombastium from Scrooge McDuck to use it for nuclear weapons.[2]

1963: Two agents, advised by a duckburgian military scientist, tried to rob an army truck with a cargo of dance-ray-guns, hoping they could use the guns to start a revolution in Coco Nutsia. [3]

1965: A Brutopian Consul in Duckburg hypnotized Scrooge and planned to use the hypnotizing machine to take over the world.[4]

???: A Brutopian representative in Duckburg was among the rivals of Scrooge McDuck to wait at the Duckburg Airport to find out the location of the mysterious Plain Awful, however, the Ducks were disguised, and the location was not found out.[5]

2001: The Ducks, while searching for a map, get attacked by Brutopian armies. However, Scrooge always manages to stop the Brutopians.

Behind the scenes[]

Brutopia was first mentioned in 1950, in the story Dangerous Disguise, thought it was not until the 1957 story A Cold Bargain that an official of the country was introduced. Carl Barks actually used the concept of an anti-american spy network trying to move secret information in an earlier story, named Serum to Codfish Cove. But none of the spies revealed which nation they worked for.

Barks based the country on the Soviet Union, but generally kept it rather mysterious, and it has therefore been used very sparingly by later creators as well.
