Brutopia is a country aiming for world domination. They have often come up against Scrooge McDuck during these attempts. In 1957, they tried to steal the element Bombastium from Scrooge to use it for nuclear weapons. In 1965, the Brutopian Consul in Duckburg hypnotized Scrooge and planned to use the hypnotizing machine to take over the world. And in 2001, the Ducks, while searching for a map, get attacked by Brutopian armies. However, Scrooge always manages to stop the Brutopians. Brutopia has a space program of some sort, as they are known to have a few satellites in orbit, one of which was destroyed when the Curse of Nostrildamus caused it to fall to Earth. A Brutopian representative in Duckburg was among the rivals of Scrooge McDuck to wait at the Duckburg Airport to find out the location of the mysterious Plain Awful, however, the Ducks were disguised, and the location was not found out.

Brutopia first appeared in 1957 in A Cold Bargain by Carl Barks. It was based on the Soviet Union.

Once when Don Rosa was asked about the location of Brutopia, he said: "Barks made it quite obvious that he was implying that Brutopia was the equivalent of Russia or the USSR. Nothing much is known about the history of Brutopia. All we can say for certain is that the country is ruled by a very hostile and aggressive government. In two stories by Barks there are presented two different Brutopian flags. This may indicate that Brutopia was hit by a revolution or more likely a coup d'etat sometime between 1957 and 1965, perhaps a link to Leonid Brezhnev<nowiki/>'s take over in the U.S.S.R. in 1964?

A funny detail in Don Rosa's Attaaaaaack! story from 2000, is that the Brutopian spy rented a luxury hotel room at the local Ritz's top floor. HistoryEdit

Once when Don Rosa was asked about the location of Brutopia, he said: "Barks made it quite obvious that he was implying that Brutopia was the equivalent of Russia or the USSR. I don't say it's exactly Russia, otherwise I would not call it Brutopia, I'd call it Russia. I place it as occupying the eastern third of Russia (Siberia), as I place Calisota as the northern third of California." Nothing much is known about the history of Brutopia. All we can say for certain is that the country is ruled by a very hostile and aggressive government. In two stories by Barks there are presented two different Brutopian flags. This may indicate that Brutopia was hit by a revolution or more likely a coup d'etat sometime between 1957 and 1965, perhaps a link to Leonid Brezhnev's take over in the U.S.S.R. in 1964? A funny detail in Don Rosa's Attaaaaaack! story from 2000, is that the Brutopian spy rented a luxury hotel room at the local Ritz's top floor. Traditionally, that's what the Soviets used to do during the cold war. Don Rosa also shows a Brutopian Sputnik falling down from the sky, in The Curse of Nostrildamus story from 1989. When asked if he has ever thought about sending the Ducks on an expedition to Brutopia Don Rosa says: "...that would be a tricky subject, with politics and insulting references to nations where Egmont now publishes Disney comics. But I might try it someday."
