Carl Stalling

Carl W. Stalling (b. November the 10th, 1891 – d. November the 29th, 1972) was an American composer, and, occasionally, writer or voice actor.

Career

Originally an organist at the Isis Theatre in Kansas City, Carl Stalling was hired by his old acquaintance Walt Disney to compose musical scores for his cartoons in 1929. As such, Stalling is responsible for the score of a number of early Disney animated shorts, though he left the studio in 1930. He notably wrote the music for the song "Minnie's Yoo Hoo" (as heard in the cartoons Mickey's Follies and Minnie's Yoo Hoo).

At least partially responsible for the creation of the Silly Symphonies cartoon series, he was the one who pitched the subject of the first one, skeletons dancing in a graveyard — which would become the ever-successful The Skeleton Dance. Stalling also performed the voice of Mickey Mouse on rare occasions.

After leaving Disney, he went on to have a successful career composing music for Warner Brothers' Looney Tunes and Merry Melodies cartoon series.
