The series consists primarily of short animatics taking place within a version of the Haunted Mansion. In the first episode, several different versions of the Hatbox Ghost are called to this version of reality by the local Madame Leota, uniquely providing a crossover between numerous unrelated Tumblr for the character, each with its own parallel continuity. It is unclear whether any of the Hatboxes counts as the Prime Universe version.
Also falling under the umbrella title is a Tumblr Ask Blog of the same name, where some comics were also released. Some of them originally appeared on series creator Rain N. Thirteen's personal blog Rain's World.

Behind the scenes
Charlie's Head Is In The Hatbox is an unlicensed fan project, a loving parody of the Haunted Mansion franchise springing from its fandom.
It sprang off from, but is not strictly speaking set in the same continuity as, its author's serialized, metafictional crossover webnovel A Day in the Life of Fandom, which featured the version of the Hatbox Ghost used in Charlie's Head. The official Tumblr blog of said novel has occasionally featured short comics or prose pieces featuring only Charlie and other Haunted Mansion characters, which could be argued to slot into the continuity of Rain's World as seen in Charlie's Head Is In The Hatbox.
