The series that became ''Rescue Rangers'' was conceived by [[Tad Stones]], who had initially hoped to do a television spinoff of [[Disney]]'s film ''[[The Rescuers]]''. Disney rejected this initial idea, as plans were already in the works for a sequel that was eventually released as ''[[The Rescuers Down Under]]''. As such, Stones and his collaborators created their own concept for a cop show involving small animal characters, under the name ''Metro Mice''. Eventually they reworked the concept into a detective series, and at the request of Disney executives replaced lead character [[Kit Colby]] with Chip and Dale.

Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers is an animated series that was part of the Disney Afternoon.

Plot

Chip and Dale star in the series where they start a detective agency, the Rescue Rangers, along with their friends Gadget Hackwrench, Monterey Jack, and Zipper. The pint-sized detectives deal with crimes that are often "too small" for the police to handle, usually with other animals as their clients. The gang frequently find themselves going up against two particular arch-villains: Mafia-style tabby cat Fat Cat and mad scientist Norton Nimnul.
