The Devil, also known as Satan, Lucifer and Beelzebub, was a powerful supernatural figure, the ur-demon.
Description[edit | edit source]
A leader of demons and the Ruler of Hell, the Devil is a brutish tyrant with a sadistic streak. The Devil has gone by many names, such as Satan, Lucifer and Beelzebub; if some accounts are to be believed, even Chernabog, the demon of Bald Mountain, is but an alias or aspect of the Devil himself, making Chernabog yet another name for the same malevolent being.
Perpetually seeking to entrap more souls of the deceased into servitude, he dispatches demons such as Mephistopheles to the world of the living to make deals with desperate mortals, though he will just as soon torture his own demonic agents if no mortals are available. Although an imp once managed to escape his wrath in 1929, by causing him to fall into a chasm and be consumed by the Living Hellfire, this did not permanently kill Beelzebub, who would return in time, with a new appearance but all his malice intact.
Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]
The Devil first appeared in 1930 in Hell's Bells.
