Down the Hatch is a cartoon story written by Darrick Bachman, Clay Morrow, Richard Pursel, Heiko Drengenberg and Paul Rudish, and directed by Wasson. It features Mickey Mouse, Goofy, Donald Duck and Ludwig von Drake. Gyro Gearloose also makes a cameo.
Ludwig von Drake hosts a tour in the Hall of Science, where he shows Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy the Shrink Ray. But as soon as Ludwig's back is turned, Donald accidentally sets it off on his two pals, who end up in the duck's glass of water. Drunk by Donald, the two playfully set out to explore his innards, accidentally causing much slapstick discomfort for Donald back in the human-scale world, like making him sing like a rockstar by playing with his vocal cords like guitars, making echoes in his brain area, Ect!
- The Shrink Ray is found at the Hall of Science, where Ludwig von Drake and Gyro Gearloose are employed.
- This is the first cartoon in Mickey Mouse: The Series whose initial hook is a visit to the Hall of Science followed by a misused Von Drake machine causing trouble. This scheme would be reused in Split Decision (2016) and Outta Time (2019), with the latter directly referencing the previous two.
- It is revealed that people can go in others bodies
- It implies that Donald's vocal cords can be strummed or plucked, making it play music.
