A conciliating, somewhat mother-henny old woman, Downy McDuck née O'Drake is the mother of Scrooge McDuck. At the turn of the 20th century, she and her husband Fergus lived in Castle McDuck when it was destroyed in unknown circumstances. Scrooge put the Castle back together using ancient Druidic rune stones, and, too unfamiliar with them to control them correctly, accidentally made Fergus and Downy immortal as a side-effect, trapping them in the Castle, and, if that wasn't enough, hid the Castle behind a wall of mystical fog that only lifted once every five years.
Behind the scenesEdit
Interestingly, the photograph displayed in Woo-oo! features a slightly different design to that of the flesh-and-blood Downy later introduced, lacking the glasses and with a smaller beak.
Fergus and Downy's situation as ordinary people made unbreakably, absurdly immortal by a well-meaning acquaintance harnessing a greater power than they can control has interesting parallels to Captain Jack Harkness from the Doctor Who TV series, for which David Tennant (who voices Scrooge in DuckTales 2017) is known, and which Francisco Angones is a known fan of.
