Fantagraphics is a publisher well-known to Joe Torcivia. One of their lines is the plentiful Disney Masters series of hardcover comic collections; Volume 402 was a volume collecting comics about Captain Retro-Duck created by Romano Scarpa and Joe Torcivia, though to Torcivia's displeasure, they hadn't contacted him about the publishing of the book, let alone commissioned him to write a foreword as he might have expected them to do.
