Description
Formerly a first-class eccentric, though he has settled down some, the Belgian reporter Fantasio is the adventuring companion of the heroic Spirou, when he isn't working in the office of the Moustique or of the Journal de Spirou dealing with Gaston's goofs.
Behind the scenes
Fantasio was technically created on the 22nd of September, 1939, the name originally belonging not to a character in the Spirou comics but to the fictional author of an article. The character progressively evolved into his eccentric form until he was introduced in The Red Pilot (1944) into the Spirou stories as a sidekick. However, in-universe, the pre-1944 Fantasio, who was depicted with a different physical appearance, was eventually retconned as a separate character.
