Fflewddur Fflam was a human being.
Description[]
Born in Prydain in the Dark Ages, Fflewddur Fflam was a moderately talented bard in possession of a magical harp whose chords would break every time a lie was spoken in its presence — which happened rather frequently due to Fflewddur's tendency to boast untruthfully about his own musical abilities.
Despite his overbearing ego, however, Fflewddur was a kind and mostly harmless man, who was totally out of his depth when, as a wandering bard, he happened to find his way to the Horned King's Castle. Without even listening to him, the King had him locked away in a cell to starve. He was fortunately freed by Taran and Princess Eilonwy and became their friend and companion; Fflewddur took part in the defeat of the Horned King and in subsequent adventures, having settled down in Caer Dallben.

Behind the scenes[]
Fflewddur Fflam first appeared in the 1985 animated film The Black Cauldron.
He is based on the character of the same name from Lloyd Alexander's Chronicles of Prydain, although he is much older than his book counterpart, lacks his pointy nose, and has none of the complex backstory of the original (who was revealed to actually be an exiled nobleman). Interestingly, concept art by Milt Kahl stayed closer to the original book character, at least design-wise; the reasons for the change remain unknown.
