A 'Pot' Shot is a 1930 comic story with art by Wilfred Haughton. It features Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, and Marcus Mouse.

Plot[]

Mickey Mouse tells the story of how he once sang and played for his girlfriend Minnie Mouse in the night only to be hit by a flower pot thrown by Minnie's "stern papa".

Behind the scenes[]

A 'Pot' Shot was first released on December the 1st, 1930[2] in the first edition of Mickey Mouse Annual, a Mickey Mouse publication in the United Kingdom.

The story featured art by Wilfred Haughton as well as recycled art from Floyd Gottfredson. It is notable for being a rare appearance of Minnie Mouse's father Marcus, though his name is not given, with him only being referred to as Minnie's "stern papa". He had debuted just a couple of months earlier in Mr Slicker and the Egg Robbers. Marcus's design in A 'Pot' Shot is much different from his Mr Slicker and the Egg Robbers appearance, which showed him with a long beard noticeably absent in his A 'Pot' Shot appearance; it is clear that the two stories on either side of the pond independently thought to create a character to fill the slot of "Minnie's father", with no knowledge of each other's work.
