Gargoyles are a broad class of monsters, usually resembling grotesque winged demons and made of animated stone. The term also applies to inanimate statues of comparable appearance, often found on churches and cathedrals.

Description[]

Gargoyles, insofar as they exist as living beings, are a type of monster resembling the statues of the same name. They are of variable intelligence and disposition, some of them being sentient individuals while others are snarling monsters. Many display the ability to “freeze” into inanimate stone statues at will as a survival technique.

Behind the scenes[]

Living Gargoyles are a stock fantasy creature. They are believed to have first been mentioned in the Disney comics universe in the 1988 story Huey, Dewey and Louie and the Flying Gargoyles.
