George Shanton is or was a male dognose.
The Captain of the Rough Riders, George Shanton was fiercely devoted to President Theodore Roosevelt, and had even taught his horse to salute alongside himself. In 1906, Shanton led the Rough Riders when they served as the police of the Panama Canal diggings, under the supervision of Roosevelt, and nearly directed them to war against the forces of General Esteban until the descent of the Stone Jaguar down Gold Hill spooked the Panamanian forces enough to disband their army.
Behind the scenesEdit
Shanton makes a brief appearance in the 2001 The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck bonus chapter The Sharpie of the Culebra Cut. According to some sources, Captain George Shanton of the Rough Riders really existed, though information about him is scarce on the Internet.
