The Golden Helmet is a Viking helmet made out of solid gold, and an artifact of immense historical and legal importance.

History[]

Buried on the North American coast in the 9th century by the Viking Olaf the Blue to mark his discovery of the continent, the Golden Helmet first became a subject of attention in 1952 when a legal loophole was unearthed by Sharky which would allow a descendent of Olaf the Blue to gain full ownership of North America itself.

As the Helmet would simultaneously prove that Olaf had indeed discovered the Americas and help its owner argue a claim that they were Olaf's heir, ownership of the Helmet was thus agreed to equate with ownership of North America. Found, lost, stolen and devalued, the Helmet passed through many greedy hands over the years. By the 2010's, it had somehow ended up among Scrooge McDuck's possessions, in circumstances unknown to his nephew Donald or Huey, Dewey and Louie Duck.

Behind the scenes[]

The Golden Helmet is an iconic artifact from Duck comics lore, first featured in the 1952 Carl Barks story The Golden Helmet.
