The Heirloom Brooch is a piece of jewelry currently in the possession of Daisy Duck.
Description[]
Originally owned by Daisy's great-aunt Griseldis, this large blue brooch, while not of extremely rich make, is of great sentimental value to Daisy Duck, and, what's more, believed by her and Donald Duck to be unique. In 1950, Daisy briefly left it in Donald's care during a burglar scare, and Donald ended up losing it, plunging him into a wacky adventure trying to get it back from quick-change-artist Zippo, who had stumbled upon it, but it was eventually recovered by Huey, Dewey and Louie Duck in the stomach of a fish. At some later point, it found its way inside Scrooge McDuck's Money Bin, perhaps because Daisy had once again entrusted it to a relative for safekeeping.
Behind the scenes[]
The Heirloom Brooch is central to Carl Barks's 1950 Big-Top Bedlam.
It is only referred to by Barks as "a heirloom"; it is the 1959 German localization by Erika Fuchs which invented Griseldis as its original owner. It was, at any rate, later featured in a 1993 American cover for Barks's unrelated story Christmas Cheers among treasures in Scrooge's Bin.
