Hell's Bells is a theatrical cartoon short by Ub Iwerks. It features, in their debut, the Devil, several rank-and-file demons including the “Rebellious Imp”, Cerberus, the Hellcow, and and Living Hellfire.

Plot[]

Hell is a place of merriment tonight, though the only one really having fun is the master of the house himself, while the demons and imps can't seem to make music without getting into scrapes. And that's without the Devil's own sadistic tendency to mess with his underlings, which might just prove his undoing…

Continuity[]

  • The Underworld and demons in the same designs as seen in this story would appear again, in an earlier point in its timeline, in colour in The Goddess of Spring (1934).
  • Despite the Devil's apparent death at the end of this story, he, of course, survived, reappearing with a new body in Dead Duck (1992) and Hot Spells (1992), two episodes of Darkwing Duck.

Behind the scenes[]

This cartoon short, one of the Silly Symphonies, was released in 1929.
