Jake is a young human boy.

Description

Jake was, in 2013, a disturbed, apathetic little boy due to the loss of his mother and his father's marrying another woman. Highly imaginative, and apparently the wielder of borderline-magical psychic abilities, he was set upon by the ghost Phineas as a mortal to follow home after he visited the Haunted Mansion in Disneyland. Though his fear initially strengthened Phineas's powers, Jake and his stepmother, banding together at last, were able to regain confidence in themselves and cast him away — after which Jake considerably warmed to her, even going so far as to call her "mom".

Behind the scenes

Jake was created as the main protagonist of Followed from the Mansion.

Removed from its wider Disney context, Followed from the Mansion was written to be open to the interpretation that Jake is possessed of supernatural powers that conjured up Phineas and all the other ghostly goings-on from his imagination, rather than just draw them to him.
