King Leopold was a human man.
Description[edit | edit source]
The King of an enchanted kingdom in the Black Forest, King Leopold was once married to the kindly Queen Eva; they had a beautiful daughter, whom they christened Snow White. Eva died soon thereafter, leaving Leopold heartbroken. He let himself be seduced by another woman, however, the powerful sorceress, and already Queen of another realm (the Kingdom of Shaitan), Grimhilde. A doting father to Snow White, Leopold hoped that Grimhilde would be a surrogate mother to Snow. Of course, the kindly old fool was gravely mistaken; as was her habit, Grimhilde had Leopold murdered and ruled the kingdom for herself from then on, until she was brought down by Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937.
Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]
King Leopold was planned to appear in 1937 in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, but was cut for time. His name was only ever revealed in the TV show Once Upon a Time.
In the stage musical version of the film, the main change to the storyline is that King Leopold is alive throughout the tale, reappearing at the end of the story to be reunited with his daughter and order the imprisonment of Luna.
