Merlock, also known as Merlock the Magician, is an anthropomorphic wolf.

Description

Merlock was born in very ancient times and somehow gained ownership of a green magical talisman. This object granted him great magical powers. He also discovered that he could use the talisman in another way: fusing it with a Genie's lamp would grant him unlimited wishes rather than the usual three. Sure enough, he found a lamp. His first wish was to live forever, and he then controlled the genie for hundreds of years, using the wishes for various evil deeds. Merlock was notably responsible for the sinking of Atlantis and the eruption of the Vesuvius that destroyed Pompeii.

At some point, Collie Baba, prince of thieves, managed to steal the lamp and the genie away from Merlock; they were hidden in Collie Baba's tomb beneath the desert. Merlock spent a millennium looking for it until 1990, when Scrooge McDuck managed to find it. Merlock then used the power of the talisman to try to steal the lamp back. However, eventually, the Genie was freed and the Talisman destroyed, leaving Merlock much worse off than he was before. Merlock had transformed into a griffin before the genie was freed, and, with the spell broken, he plummeted back to Earth, seemingly dying.

However, he survived, and he moved back to his temple. He somehow reconstructed the talisman. While Daisy Duck was doing a news report on the temple's discovery, he kidnapped her, prompting Donald Duck and Gladstone Gander to journey to get her back, with the help of Gyro Gearloose. In an attempt to stop them, Merlock enlisted the help of Magica De Spell, the Beagle Boys, and Bernadette the Chicken. However, Donald managed to defeat him anyway, destroying the talisman in the process. Merlock fled the scene as his temple collapsed, and his final fate remains unknown.
