Mickey Mouse Outwits the Phantom Blot is a comic story written by Gary Whitney and drawn by Rick Hoover, being a remake of the plot of the original Mickey Mouse Outwits the Phantom Blot comic strip serial (although with significant differences. It features Mickey Mouse, Chief O'Hara and the Phantom Blot. Trip Brickman is mentioned throughout.
Plot[]
Chief O'Hara, chief of the Mouseton Police, asks Mickey Mouse to help him arrest a mysterious criminal known as the Phantom Blot, who has been stealing and smashing all copies of a certain VHS tape he can get his hands on. As Mickey begins to investigate, it soon turns out that the videotape thefts are only the tip of an illegal iceberg and that the Blot is quite prepared to kill to protect his secret…
References[]
- The Phantom Blot is after a diagram of a new computer chip, which has been imprinted onto a tape of Trip Brickman Yodels Christmas Carols.
- The owner of the last videotape lives in Stickville.
Continuity[]
- This story borrows the title and overall plot, and some incidents, from Mickey Mouse Outwits the Phantom Blot (1939). However, the plot is greatly abridged, and more interestingly, the cameras and chemical formula are updated to VHS tapes and a computer chip, setting this story firmly in 1994 and preventing it from being viewed as simply a retelling of the original events. Nevertheless, it is still presented as Mickey and O'Hara's apparent first encounter with the Blot, as they are unfamiliar with him at the beginning of the story.
Behind the scenes[]
This story was originally serialised in 1994 in various American newspapers. It is not known to have ever been reprinted in English.
