Monteplumage was a human man from the 2017 Continuum who is now an animate stone statue.

DescriptionEdit

Monteplumage was a powerful Aztec leader bigwig at the time of the Spanish conquest. Well-versed in the supernatural, he and his inner circle created a cursed Golden Chicken as a trap for the Conquistadors, only to have the artifact backfire on them. Only after it had ruined their capital did they managed to trap it in an enchanted golden cage. After their demise, Monteplumage and his Court's spirits came to inhabit totem-like stone statues of them which line the walls of a lost Temple of theirs, where the Golden Chicken was also kept until the 2000's, when it was accidentally awoken, and subsequently taken away, by the trio of adventurers formed by Scrooge McDuck, Donald Duck and Della Duck. The statues, careful not to reveal their true nature to the Ducks, welcomed this turn of events after their departure, overjoyed that they were finally free from the Damocles sword the Chicken represented.

Behind the scenesEdit

Monteplumage appears in the 2017 DuckTales 2017 comic story Old Monteplumage Had a Chicken.

His name is a play on Moctezuma (also anglicized "Montezuma"), the last pre-Conquistadors Aztec monarch in real-life history, though Old Monteplumage Had a Chicken does not clarify whether Monteplumage was the ruler of the Aztec or simply some sort of powerful priest or nobleman.
