It is unclear what exactly what Murphy does for a living, though it would seem likely that he is either a police officer or animal control officer. At any rate, in the early 1960's, he was tasked with helping to search for the runaway circus gorilla, Horrendo. By this point in time, he and Donald already knew each other on a first-name basis.
Behind the scenes[]
Murphy's first and only known appearance is in Carl Barks's Spare That Hair, which was first released in May of 1963. Murphy plays a small part in the story, being one of the men who tries to find Horrendo.
