Nightmare on Duck Street, also known by the unofficial title Nightmare on Webfoot Walk, is a comic story written & drawn by Marco Rota. It features Donald Duck, Gyro Gearloose, Daisy Duck, Gabby, the Beagle Boys, Scrooge McDuck, Elvira Duck & Gus Goose and the Little Helper. Goofy makes a cameo on a billboard, and Pinocchio serves as the model for one of Gyro's inventions.

Description[]

Donald Duck's leisurely visit to Gyro Gearloose seems him discover that Gyro has mysteriously disappeared. This is only the start of a series of increasingly outlandish, nightmarish events that Donald must confront as he tries to find some help in Duckburg!

Continuity[]

  • Pinocchio is the model of Gyro Gearloose's “lie detector”, though Rota draws the character not as he appeared in Disney's Pinocchio (1940) but in a style resembling the illustrations of the original book by Collodi.
  • One of the characters in Donald's nightmare is the titular canine from Carl Barks's The Talking Dog (1953).
  • The DuckTales 2017 episode A Nightmare on Killmotor Hill (2019) would again feature a the characters trapped in a nightmare realm, with the title an allusion to the Nightmare on Elm Street horror film series.

Behind the scenes[]

This story was first printed in May the 9th, 1997 in the Swedish Kalle Anka & Co #1997-20.

It has never officially been printed in English, but Geoffrey Moses created a scanlation of it to go along with his review of it on Duck Comics Revue for Halloween 2019.

Moses also proposed an alternative ending for the story to give it a “horror stinger” to undermine the idea that it was all a dream, with Daisy Duck reflecting (in "nightmare font") on how odd it is that Donald really thinks he's escaped.
