Papercelsus was presumably an anthropomorphic duck.

DescriptionEdit

Papercelsus was an alchemist from the Renaissance who sought to use his art to give life to the inanimate. His studies, which remained incomplete, were nonetheless a formative influence upon Victor von Duckenstein, who would go on to achieve Papercelsus's dreams, creating Growl and all of Toonkind as a result.

Behind the scenesEdit

Papercelsus is mentioned in the 2016 story Duckenstein.

Papercelus's name is a portmanteau of the name of real Swiss alchemist Paracelsus, whose works the original Victor Frankenstein was indeed stated to have read in the original Frankenstein novel, and the Italian root "Paper" for "waterfowl", which is constantly used in Italian Disney comics for the Duckburg cast — staring with Donald Duck himself, Paperino. It is unclear if Papercelsus's name simply denotes his species, or if he is meant to be a historical counterpart of either "Paperino", "Paperone" or "De Paperis", a hypothesis whose likelihood increases if one considers that the other alchemist mentioned in Duckenstein, Gyrus Magnus, is a historical counterpart of a regular, namely, Gyro Gearloose.
