Several hundreds of years ago, the Inca had a civil war in what would eventually become Peru. In 1532, Pizarro and his Conquistadors invaded the land and imprisoned Atahualpa, the current emperor and demanded the gold. However, most of the gold was still held by loyalist of Huascar. The gold was later hidden away in the Temple of Manco Cupac and eventually, Peru became a Spanish colony in spite of the resistance.
