The so-called Phantom Mayor, or simply the Mayor of Phantom Canyon, was a human man who is now a ghost.

Description[]

A jovial spook with a detached head, the Phantom Mayor was the mayor of Thunder Mesa at the height of Henry Ravenswood's power, and, like Henry, is believed to have died in the 1860 earthquake that sunk part of Thunder Mesa and created Phantom Canyon. Like the rest of the inhabitants of Phantom Canyon, the Mayor stayed in the town, still fulfilling a twisted version of his old job, as a ghost under the Phantom's power. He can most often be seen greeting visitors to Phantom Canyon (taking off his head instead of his hat), quoting the Ghost Host's welcoming speech as he does so and offering them the oversized "skeleton" key to the city.

Behind the scenes[]

The Phantom Mayor was created as a secondary character of the Disneyland Paris ride Phantom Manor, which opened in 1992.

His dialogue is sampled from Paul Frees's work as the Ghost Host in The Haunted Mansion, the 1969 ride on which the later Phantom Manor was based. It is unclear how and why the Mayor is, in-universe, quoting the Ghost Host. At any rate, his body was, in the meanwhile, based on the physical appearance of Dreamfinder.
