Phones to Venus is a comic one-pager written by Greg Crosby and drawn by Frank Smith. It features Ludwig von Drake and Donald Duck.

Description[]

Ludwig von Drake uses sophisticated equipment to contact the planet Venus. And he does manage it, but it seems some things never change…

Continuity[]

  • Venusians were previously shown to understand English, and have a very Earth-like civilization in some ways, in Carl Barks's Interplanetary Postman (1964).
  • Four years later, the story was reprinted with the dialogue altered, changing "Venus" to simply "outer space" and changing the punchline. The result is Phones to Outer Space (1982), which can be read as a sequel to this story with Ludwig further perfecting his machine.

Behind the scenes[]

This story was only ever printed in English January of 1978 in miscellaneous American newspapers. It seems some of these printings at least were shortened (as seen in the infobox), as some foreign printings feature more panels, as does Phones to Outer Space.
