Policy Pandemonium, also known by the titles of Trouble Indemnity and The Super Salesman, is a comic story written and drawn by Carl Barks. It features Donald Duck, Scrooge McDuck, Huey, Dewey and Louie Duck, and, in their debuts, Mr Brasshorn and Mugger Joe.
Donald Duck, trying to prove himself to the insurance company he now works for, makes the biggest sell in said company's history when he sells his uncle Scrooge an accidents insurance policy for one billion dollar! Unfortunately, Scrooge proceeds to put himself in all kinds of dangerous situation to receive the two billion dollar insurance-payoff. The company, not prepared to pay that kind of money, sends Donald after him to look after him.
- The trapdoor setup used by Scrooge McDuck in his Money Bin (and, as seen here, in other offices of his around town) is called a Peddler-Eliminator and, on average, the slide sends moochers out “sixteen and a half times faster than they came in”.
- Scrooge McDuck has been frequently forced off the sidewalks of Duckburg by Mugger Joe and his "snarling dog" for "years".
- At the end of the story, Donald Duck gets a contract for twenty weeks in vaudeville due to having dared to go over Dizzy Drop Falls in a tub (which he only did accidentally in an effort to stop Scrooge from doing so).
Behind the scenesEdit
This story was first published in 1955 in Walt Disney's Comics and Stories #180. It was reprinted in Walt Disney's Comics and Stories #362, Uncle Scrooge #238, in the Australian Walt Disney's Comics #115, Jumbo #43 (where it received its title of Policy Pandemonium) and Giant #502 (where it was instead entitled Trouble Indemnity, in allusion to the classic film noir Double Indemnity) as well as in the British Mickey Mouse #193 (in a cut version under the title of The Super Salesman), and, of course, in the Carl Barks Library.
