Professor Pintail is a hybrid of anthropomorphic cockatoo and duck.

Description

Professor Pintail is an archeologist (whose specialty appears to be Pre-Columbian civilization) and the director of the Duckburg City Museum. In 1961, he and Donald Duck explored the Ixticl Pyramid, the only known Mayan pyramid with a bannister in the middle of its stairway.

Behind the scenes

Professor Pintail first appeared in the 1961 story The Mysterious Pyramid. His physical appearance is very similar to that of Ludwig von Drake, who was created the very same year. He later appeared alongside Von Drake in the 1963 story Injun Expert.

His existence seems to contradict that of Mr Billups, the Curator of the Duckburg Museum. However, it is very probable that the "City Museum" seen in The Mysterious Pyramid is not the same museum as the Duckburg Museum seen in The Golden Helmet and Rightful Owners.

Professor Pintail shares his name with a minor character from another story written by Vic LockmanBeyond the Moon; this story's Professor Pintail is an anthropomorphic dog and a notorious astronomer from the Duckburg Space Institute.  It is very unlikely that Lockman intended both Professors to be the same character, or even relatives, taking into account the different species.
