Return to Shangri-Lala (a direct translation of the original French title, Retour au Shangri-Lala) is a comic story written by François Corteggiani, penciled by Santiago Barreira and inked by the Comicup Studio. It features Donald Duck, Huey, Dewey and Louie Duck, Scrooge McDuck, Unie the Unicorn, and, in their debuts, Pepinillo Cornudo and the Other Unicorn.
Plot
After violently rejecting a proposal by Mexican businessman Pepinillo Cornudo to organize a "bullfight" with Unie the Unicorn in place of the bull, Scrooge McDuck sends Donald Duck and the triplets back to Shangri-Lala to investigate reports of another, female Unicorn…
Continuity
- The story is a direct sequel to Carl Barks's Trail of the Unicorn (1950), featuring the return of Unie the Unicorn to his original habitat.
- Sarah Jolley's Trial of the Unicorn (2019) is also a straight-up sequel to Trail, but features Unie still very much in Scrooge McDuck's zoo (and single). It is thus easiest to assume that Trial actually takes place prior to Return, despite the stories having been released in the opposite order.
Behind the scenes
Retour au Shangri-Lala was first printed in the French Le Journal de Mickey #2945 in 2008. It has not, to date, received an official English-language printing.
