Scottie McTerrier was a young Scottish dog in 1902, when he first met the billionaire Scrooge McDuck. When Scrooge decided to move to the United States of America, he made Scottie the caretaker of Castle McDuck. Scottie remained in this position until his death, at which point the crooked Diamond Dick took his place. Diamond Dick posed as Scottie and kept his death a secret from Scrooge. Scrooge did not learn that Scottie had died until after he realized that Dick was trying to steal from him.

Scottie McTerrier was first mentioned in June 1948 in The Old Castle's Secret. Scottie actually seems to make a physical appearance in the story, but it is later revealed within the story that the character once thought to be him was actually the thief Diamond Dick.
