The Society of Explorers and Adventurers is an organization.

Description[]

Founded in 1538 in Italy, the Society of Explorers and Adventurers came to prominence in the 19th century and was a group of adventurers and scientists determined to push forward the bounds of human knowledge and help preserve lost wonders, both natural and manmade. Though their membership was mostly British and American by then, they were active on a worldwide scale.

Behind the scenes[]

The S.E.A. was first seen in the 2001 attraction Fortress Explorations in the Tokyo DisneySea theme park, though the Adventurers' Club seen in the 1989-opened attraction of the same name was later retconned as having been a 20th-century 'chapter' of the Society. Indeed, the creation of the S.E.A. was a direct result of the closure of the Club, with its sheer concept allowing props from the Club to be spread throughout the Parks as a tribute to it while making narrative sense.

The Society was given more prominence from 2013 onwards, with Mystic Manor being the first attraction to feature it as a key plot point, alongside the updates to Walt Disney World's Big Thunder Mountain Railroad made that same year. Preexisting characters such as Jason Chandler, Captain Brieux, Jock Lindsey and Merriweather Adam Pleasure were retconned to have belonged to the Society.
