Duckburg's Poem Reading Society is holding a speedskating race, and the winner will escort the Society's chairlady, Daisy Duck, to the Speedskating Banquet after the race. Donald tries to beat Gladstone using high-tech skating equipment built by Gyro Gearloose, however, thanks to Gladstone's luck, the skates go out of control, causing Donald to crash into Daisy. Later, at the hospital, Donald and Daisy have a romantic evening, while Gladstone, the winner of the race, must escort the Society Secretary of the club to the banquet instead.
Behind the scenes Edit
The Annual Speedskating Race of the Burg of Ducks was first published in 1999. It was written by Nils Lid Hjort and drawn by Don Rosa. It was not, originally, an official Disney comic, as it was originally published only in the speedskating magazine Speedskating World #8, without approval from Disney or an official Disney comic publisher. Because of this, none of the characters are referred to by name, and Gyro Gearloose's face is not shown (for unknown reasons, as all other characters faces are). However, it has since been published in many official Don Rosa collections.
