The Birthday Party is a cartoon likely written by Walt Disney, and directed by Burt Gillett. It features Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Horace Horsecollar and Clarabelle Cow, as well as a number of nameless characters who appear to be good friends of Mickey and Minnie's.

Coming home, Mickey Mouse discovers that Minnie Mouse (remembering his birthday) has thrown a surprise party for him; much musical fun is had.

Behind the scenesEdit

This cartoon short was released in 1931.

Mickey's birthday cake has two candles; this is an allusion to the fact that when the short was created (in late 1930), the character was technically two years old, having made his official debut in 1928.

The Birthday Party was the basis for the later Mickey's Birthday Party, where he wears a similar costume to the one he has at the beginning of the short. It was partially remained in 2018 in Lego animation, with the same title, to promote Mickey Mouse's 90th anniversary and the release of the Minnie's Birthday Party lego set. The 2018 short begins almost identically to the 1931 original, only to diverge for the second half, which is much shorter.
