Scrooge McDuck has struck what he believes to be a lucrative deal with King Kumquat of Mysterystan to buy one of the largest diamonds in the world, the Zero Diamond. Little does he know that the "Zero Diamond" is more properly known as the Doom Diamond, the most cursed piece of jewelry in the world whom the Mysterystanians are desperate to get rid of because of all the bad luck it brings… not to mention that a crafty contingent of Beagle Boys piloting a high-tech ship are after the diamond on the way back, also unaware of its true nature!
Behind the scenes
This story was first printed in 1967 in Uncle Scrooge #70 and was the last Scrooge McDuck story written and drawn by Carl Barks to be published (though he'd actually written The Cattle King after The Doom Diamond). The story was reprinted in Uncle Scrooge #133, The Adventures of Scrooge McDuck in Color #55, Uncle Scrooge #349, Top Comics #17, and, of course, in the various Carl Barks Libraries, as well as in the Australian Giant #427 and Giant #669.
The story was referenced in the later stories The Man Who Drew Ducks and A Kind of Magic.
