The Groundskeeper's Secret is a comic story written and drawn by Darren William Frydendall, featuring the Haunted Mansion's Horace the Caretaker, the Singing Busts (Rollo Rumkin, Uncle Theodore, Cousin Algernon, Ned Nub and Phineas P. Pock) Bones, Edgar the Raven, King Tut, Harriet, the Opera Ghost, the Brick Arm Guy, the Hearse Driver, and, in her debut, Mrs Fusslebottom.
One night, after concluding their usual performance of Grim Grinning Ghosts, the Singing Busts decide to shake things up a bit by telling the story of why Horace the Caretaker keeps walking the graveyard of the Haunted Mansion every night even though he seems incurably afraid of ghosts!
- This story purports to explain the presence of the Caretaker in the actual The Haunted Mansion ride (1969) if the ride is to be taken as happening “in real time”, with the events happening over and over every time a guest arrives, as opposed to being a one-of-a-kind event which would more easily justify the Caretaker's fright but conflict with nearly all non-ride Haunted Mansion media.
- The Singing Busts refer to Horace's dog as “his Bony dog”, in an apparent reference to the Ghost Gallery where his name is given as “Bony”.
