The Miner's Granddaughter is a comic story featuring Dickie Duck, Scrooge McDuck, Goldie O'Gilt, Huey, Dewey and Louie Duck, Donald Duck, the Beagle Boys, Brigitta McBridge, Jubal Pomp, Ludwig von Drake, April, May and June, Daisy Duck, Clara Cluck, Gus Goose, Grandma Duck, Gladstone Gander and Gyro Gearloose.

Plot[]

Scrooge McDuck is summoned by Goldie O'Gilt to the retirement home where she has been staying these past few years. There, he finds Goldie being bullied (along with the other residents) by the matronly head of the house, and decides to rescue her by buying the retirement home and firing the abusive director. Goldie then reveals that the reason she asked him to come was that she needed him to keep an eye on her granddaughter Dickie Duck, who plans to move to Duckburg. The highly energetic young woman arrives in Duckburg and is greeted by all the friends and relatives of Scrooge, from Gus Goose to Brigitta. Together, they begin to prepare a welcome party for Dickie, and give her some money so she can buy herself a few things while they do so. Unfortunately, as soon as she is given the money, Dickie disappears, making everyone think she is superficial and greedy…

Behind the scenes[]

This story was first printed in 1966 in the Italian Topolino #577. It was only ever published in English in the 2016 Uncle Scrooge #18 (legacy #422).

Due to the controversial nature of revealing Goldie O'Gilt gave birth to a child (which would either imply that Scrooge McDuck had a child out of wedlock, or that Goldie was once married to someone else than Scrooge, both notions disliked by many fans), the story was never printed in many countries, including countries that nonetheless published stories featuring Dickie Duck (this includes France, Spain, the Netherlands, Hungary, Greece, Poland, Sweden and Denmark).
