The Most Dangerous Game… Night is a cartoon story written by Francisco Angones (alongside DuckTales 2017’s usual team of writers), and directed by Tanner Johnson. Taking place in the 2017 Continuum, it features Scrooge McDuck, Huey, Dewey and Louie Duck, Webby Vanderquack, Launchpad McQuack, Bentina Beakley, Duckworth, Donald Duck, Gyro Gearloose, and, in their debut, the Gyropuddlians. The painting of Della Duck from Episode 1 also makes a lingering appearance.
Plot[]
Louie Duck, growing weary of adventures, at which he thinks he's no good, suggests the Duck family try ordinary entertainment for a change — in point of fact, a game night. But between the fact that Scrooge McDuck is as ruthlessly competitive at party games as he is in business, and Gyro Gearloose's latest catastrophe-causing creation, adventure is coming whether Louie wants it or not…
Behind the scenes[]
The first episode of Season 2 of DuckTales 2017, The Most Dangerous Game… Night was released in October of 2018. Unlike the pilot of Season 1, Woo-oo!, Dangerous Game is not a double-length episode. It does, however, feature the debut of a slightly altered title sequence which features Gizmoduck and Magica De Spell.
The pre-titles sequence features the Ducks going after the Idol of Cibola. It is, of course, a revamped version of the one seen in The Seven Cities of Cibola. More interestingly, the whole scene is played off as a parody of the opening scene of Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark (with the idol's redesign resembling the movie's idol), a nod to the fact that this sequence itself had been inspired by Seven Cities.
The title reference the famous short story The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connel, more directly parodied by the 1993 story A-Hunting We Will Go.
