The Winning of Matilda McDuck is an unofficial narrative illustration thought up and pencilled by Victoria, inked by Don Rosa and jointly coloured by the two artists. It features Matilda McDuck and Ludwig von Drake.
Plot[]
A blushing Ludwig von Drake hands Matilda McDuck a very special, very meaningful bouquet…
References[]
- A label identifies the flowers as Botanical Experiment #37B.
Continuity[]
- The concept of a Ludwig von Drake/Matilda McDuck pairing was introduced by Don Rosa in his revamped Duck Family Tree.
- Matilda looks the way she did in The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck, suggesting the scene must take place some time before A Letter From Home (2004), which takes place somewhere from 1952 to 1957. This arguably conflicts with a line in Kids is Kids (1961) which identified Ludwig as still being a bachelor, but matches Don Rosa's statement that had he been allowed to do so, he would have included dialogue in A Letter From Home confirming that Matilda was indeed married to Ludwig, with him simply being away on a conference tour during the events of the story.
Behind the scenes[]
The Winning of Matilda McDuck was created on Victoria's initiative at a convention which she and Don Rosa attended together in 2015. Victoria kept the art and published it on her Tumblr blog in March of 2015.
