Timephoon is a cartoon written by Madison Bateman (along with DuckTales 2017's normal team of writers) and directed by Jason Zurek. It features Scrooge McDuck, Huey Duck, Dewey Duck, Louie Duck, Webby Vanderquack, Launchpad McQuack, Della Duck, Bentina Beakley, Gyro Gearloose, Roxanne Featherly, and, in their debuts, Bubba McDubba, Tootsie, Benjamin Frankloon, and Gyro's Clones.
Description
As part of his latest Louie, Inc. endeavor, Louie "borrows" Gyro Gearloose's Time Tub to take artefacts from the past and bring them back to the present. Although he tries not to disrupt the time-streams and remain inconspicuous, the arrival of a frustratingly unpredictable caveduck to McDuck Manor's doorstep proves to only be the beginning of the temporal shenanigans that hit Duckburg. With the Duck clan trapped in the Manor by a fearsome timephoon, can Della learn to put her foot down before her son accidentally destroys space-time as they know it?
References
- The Time Tub appears again. It is established that whenever the 2017 Continuum's Time Tub is used, there is an afterblast that can potentially bring anyone who was standing too close to the Time Tub with one back to one's temporal destination. Too many afterblasts pointing towards the same temporal destination result in a “timephoon”, a dangerous temporal storm.
- Gyro has been creating a clone army.
Continuity
- The Time Tub finally becomes the focus of an episode after having been mentioned in The Great Dime Chase (2017) and involved in a subplot in The Outlaw Scrooge McDuck (2019).
- After having been mentioned in The Dangerous Chemistry of Gandra Dee (2019), Benjamin Frankloon makes a physical appearance.
- Gyro's Clones, only a brief joke in this episode, make a much more relevant return in the season finale Moonvasion (2019).
Behind the Scenes
Timephoon debuted on September the 9th, 2019.
After returning from the past, Gyro Gearloose is wearing an outfit reminiscent of some of the costumes Aaron Burr wore in the musical Hamilton. This could possibly be a subtle joke about Gyro's contentious relationship with his intern, Fenton Crackshell-Cabrera, who is played by the actor who originated the role of Alexander Hamilton, Lin-Manuel Miranda.
