The Tiptoes are a Native American tribe.
Description[]
The Tiptoes were, according to one account, the Native American tribe which resided around Killmule Hill around the time of the foundation of Duckburg. They received word from a fur-trader that the colonists recently settled in Fort Duckburg were planning to attack them. The Tiptoes decided to strike first and laid siege on the Fort. By the end of the protracted 40-day siege, both sides were exhausted and diminished, allowing the crooked fur-trader to steal all the furs gathered by the tribe.
The Siege was ultimately a victory for the colonists, and the Tiptoes were wrongly remembered by history as bellicose and mindlessly aggressive — a fact the tribe continued to resent until the second half of the 20th century. By then, they were still living in a reduced version of their old village, located on the edge of Duckburgian suburbia. They were able to take advantage of the Beagle Boys' attack on Donald Duck's Fort-Duckburg-replica parade gloat to restore their image at long last, protecting (a) Fort Duckburg from crooks instead of attacking it for the crooks.
Behind the Scenes[]
The Tiptoes appear in the 1969 story The Siege of Fort Duckburg.
Their portrayal is not free of the disparaging stereotypes common in mid-20th century depictions of Native Americans, in Disney comics and otherwise — most notably their “pidgin” speech patterns. However, it is worth noting that in the grand scheme of things, The Siege of Fort Duckburg is surprisingly positive in its depiction of the tribe, who are shown as sympathetic characters who rightly resent the celebratory nature of the white Duckburgers' memorials about the defeat of the tribe at the titular Siege.
