The Traveling Painter, also known as the Distlefink Man, is or was an anthropomorphic duck.
Description[]
A traveling painter, this male duck was hired by Grandpa and Grandma Duck to paint their barn in 1873. As Grandma was expecting a baby, the Painter decided to gift the Duck household with good luck by painting a hex sign called the Triple Distlefink on their barn, granting the newborn triple luck. The baby, Daphne Duck, was indeed born extremely lucky, a luck she passed on to her own son Gladstone Gander.
Behind the scenes[]
The mysterious Traveling Painter only ever appeared in Don Rosa's 1998 story The Sign of the Triple Distlefink.
As Hex Signs are primarily a dutch tradition, the Traveling Painter might have had Dutch origins.
