The Wellsian invasion of Earth was a conflict in the 97th Cosmos. It bore some similarity to the events of War of the Worlds, a novel written by Herbert George Wells in the Prime Universe.
Description[]
The Wellsian invasion of Earth was the culmination of long years of observation of the Earth by the Wellsians, who had just about sucked their own planet dry of all the resources they needed to live. Having decided to take the planet for themselves, the Wellsians had their scientists construct Really Bloody Big Cannons, and climbed inside bombshell-like pods, to be safely fired from Wellsia and onto the Earth. The entire Wellsian population thus evacuated their homeworld, except for the “cranky old Emperor”, whom the Wellsians “accidentally” forgot to take along.
Finding it difficult to move about on Earth due to the greater gravity, the Wellsians built Tripod war machines equipped with heat rays. Spreading out all over the planet's surface, they proceeded to wantonly burn down cities. England had been almost completely destroyed when the Wellsians started to feel hungry, and realised that the blood-cattle they'd brought with them had all died in the rough landing of the cannon-pods.
The Wellsians began to round up human beings instead of exterminating them, and most drank some human blood. However, they had failed to account for the viruses and bacteria present in most human blood samples, and which were totally unknown on their home planet. A flu spread like wildfire throughout the Wellsian invasion force, wiping out most of the Wellsian population and saving humanity. With the invasion broken, the few survivors (who had still been living on Wellsia-grown food stocks) focused their efforts on adding rudimentary rocket engines to one Tripod, which they subsequently used to flee the Earth. The survivors did not head for Wellsia, instead trying their luck on Venus.
